Male hares are called 'Jack' and females hares are called 'Jill'. Boxing hares are usually a female boxing a male either to show they are not interested or to test the male's perseverance. Baby hares are called leverets and are born with fur and eyes open. Hares make nests above ground and baby leverets are left alone in the nest during the day when they mainly sleep until sunset when the mother returns to feed them. Reference photo Raymond Purkiss.
